What is the moisture of ion exchange resins?

Moisture analysis is mainly to determine the water content in ion resins. It is one of the important performance indicators of ion exchange resins. It is mainly determined by the resin's skeleton structure, such as the degree of crosslinking and the number of functional groups. The water content of the resin refers to the percentage of the water content of the resin when the absorption is balanced. The water content of the resin is related to the degree of crosslinking. The smaller the degree of crosslinking, the larger the internal voids and the greater the water content. Therefore, the water content can indirectly reflect the degree of crosslinking inside the resin. The water content of the resin of different salt types is also different. The water content of ion exchange resins generally ranges from 30% to 70%.

Analytical methods

The ion exchange resin samples first absorb to the equilibrium amount of water, and then use a centrifugal method to remove the external moisture of the particles. Then a certain number of samples is weighed, the internal moisture is removed by the drying method, and the moisture content of the resin is calculated from the reduction in mass.
