Powder Resins

Powder resin refers to ion exchange resin with irregular fine powder in appearance. It can be directly prepared by emulsion polymerization, or it can be obtained by mechanically pulverizing and sieving spherical resin. There are powdery cation resins, powdery anion resins and ready-to-use mixtures composed of the former two as powder resins. Fibers can also be added. The function of the fiber is to improve the adhesion of the floc, prevent its breakage, and remove trace amounts of oil. Compared with a separate powdered anion and yang resin, the flocculation and preparation quality of the mixed resin is guaranteed by a special production process and quality control. Powdered resin can be used to remove salt, purify and filter liquids in pre-coated filters to a high degree of purity.

Researches

After the ion exchange resin is regenerated many times, many cracks are formed that hinder the smooth operation of the column and eventually deteriorate and become unusable. As a result, large amounts of spent ion exchange resins are discarded every year around the world by landfilling or incineration at special dumpsites. Using waste ion exchange resins generated in industries such as silicon semiconductors and solar panels, crushing them into fine powder in the presence of coagulants and loading them with Zr(IV) ions not only enables smooth solid/liquid separation, but also allows as much reuse as possible.

Problems such as roughness and hydrophobicity of denture base material surface can promote the adhesion of microorganisms on the denture base surface and accelerate the formation of biofilm, which can easily lead to denture stomatitis after long-term wearing of denture base into the oral cavity. The anionic powder resin prepared by the sol-gel method using Na2SiO3 as the capping agent has excellent dispersibility and antibacterial properties. It was added to denture base materials to prepare denture base materials containing anionic powder. The composite material can fight against common oral bacteria and reduce the number of bacteria on the surface of denture base materials, thus achieving the prevention of denture stomatitis.( Liu M, et al., 2018)

Typical Applications

  • Condensate polishing
  • Nuclear power plant fuel pool water treatment
  • Nuclear power plant reactor water treatment
  • Radioactive liquid waste disposal
