Cation Exchange Column

INQUIRY

Introduction

The ion exchange column is a columnar pressure vessel for ion exchange reaction, and is a frequently used equipment in the laboratory. The ion exchange column mainly uses ion exchanger as a stationary phase and is filled into a column with a certain volume. It also needs to be matched with appropriate connecting pipes and joints when in use. The stationary phase in the cation exchange column is formed by bonding cationic groups such as sulfonic acid groups to inert carriers such as cellulose, cross-linked dextran, and cross-linked agarose. It is often used to determine important inorganic cations, including lithium, sodium, ammonium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium. It can also be used to determine biogenic amines and separate proteins. According to the characteristics of the ion resin in the column, the cation exchange column can be divided into the strong acid type and the weak acid type. Their application range is different. When selecting, you need to consider the comprehensive factors such as the pH environment and the interference components of samples.

Cation Exchange Column

Researches

Since more than 70% of drugs are alkalis, basic compounds have received a lot of attention in the pharmaceutical field, and the development of effective separation methods for basic compounds is of great significance in the pharmaceutical field. The exchange mode using cation-modified silica gel can be used as an alternative to the reversed-phase mode, and various basic probes are obtained on the cation exchange column. In addition, good peak shape and resolution can be maintained under high concentration injection, indicating that the cation exchange column can be used for the separation of basic compounds, especially the purification of basic compounds.( Zhen Long, et al., 2012)

The cation exchange columns can also separate various types of hemoglobin without interference and detect abnormal protein values. In addition, the use of cation exchange columns can also separate and purify chito-oligosaccharides (COS), which provides the possibility for large-scale COS preparation.

Typical Applications

  • Inorganic cation detection
  • Protein separation
  • Biogenic amine detection
  • Analysis and purification of viral vectors
